Spring Leadership Refresh

Although spring has technically been here for a while, it finally feels like it—especially here in the Northeast. The days are longer, the air is lighter, and everywhere you look there are signs of renewal and growth.

It’s a natural time to open the windows, clear out the clutter, and start fresh. But beyond our homes, spring is also the perfect opportunity to take a step back and ask:

Does your leadership need a refresh?

Just like anything else, leadership can become routine. We fall into patterns, rely on old habits, and sometimes lose sight of what our teams truly need from us right now—not six months ago, not last year, but today.

Here are a few ways to give your leadership a meaningful spring refresh:

Reconnect with Your Team

Have you been moving so quickly that connection has taken a back seat? Spring is a great time to slow down just enough to check in.

Ask your team what’s working, what’s not, and what they need more of from you. These conversations don’t have to be formal—but they do need to be genuine. Often, the simple act of listening can re-energize trust and engagement.

Reassess Your Leadership Style

Are you leading in a way that matches the current needs of your team and organization?

What worked in a different season—during high growth, crisis, or transition—may not be what’s needed now. Take a moment to reflect:

  • Where might you be over-directing?

  • Where might you need to step in more?

  • Are you empowering others as much as you could be?

Leadership isn’t static. The best leaders evolve.

Refresh Your Emotional Intelligence

Your Emotional Intelligence is at the core of how you lead. Spring is a great time to revisit it.

Pay attention to:

  • Your self-awareness: What triggers you lately?

  • Your self-management: How are you responding under pressure?

  • Your relationships: Are you investing enough in them?

Small shifts here can have a big impact on your team’s culture and performance.

Check In With Your Values

In the busyness of leading, it’s easy to drift from what matters most. Spring offers a natural pause to realign.

Ask yourself:

  • Am I leading in a way that reflects my core values?

  • Where might I be compromising more than I’d like?

  • What do I want to model for my team every day?

When your leadership is grounded in your values, your decisions become clearer, your communication becomes more authentic, and your impact becomes stronger.

Let Go of What’s Not Working

Every leader carries habits, processes, or even mindsets that no longer serve them.

What are you holding onto out of habit rather than intention?

  • Meetings that aren’t effective

  • Communication styles that miss the mark

  • Old assumptions about team members

Spring is your permission slip to let those go.

Revisit Your Goals

Remember those goals you set at the start of the year? Now is the time to check back in.

  • Are they still relevant?

  • Are you making progress?

  • Do they need to be adjusted?

Strong leaders don’t just set goals—they revisit and realign them.

Prioritize Your Energy

It’s difficult to lead others well when you’re running on empty.

Take stock of your own energy:

  • What drains you?

  • What fuels you?

  • Where can you create more space to reset?

Leadership is not just about output—it’s about sustainability.

Be More Present

With everything competing for your attention, presence is one of the most powerful leadership tools you have.

Where can you:

  • Put your phone down?

  • Listen more fully?

  • Give someone your undivided attention?

These moments matter more than you think.

Spring is a season of possibility. It reminds us that growth doesn’t require a complete overhaul—sometimes it just takes a few intentional shifts.

I invite you to choose one or two of these areas and give your leadership the refresh it deserves.

You may find that as you grow, your team grows right alongside you.
